Case Study - Renovations

Renovation of Pretty Peak District Cottage

Mid West Planning has obtained many consents for clients wishing to extend and renovate their homes and outbuildings.

These include planning permissions for Listed Buildings, development on or near to Ancient Monuments, Non-Designated Heritage Assets and properties of historical interest.

We will help you obtain planning consent for extensions, alterations, renovations, regularisation of previously unauthorised works and for renewable energy schemes.

Planning permission was obtained by Mid West Planning Ltd in The Peak District National Park for the renovation of a traditional cottage dating back, it is thought to the 1660’s.  The cottage had been in a poor state of repair and obtaining planning permission required collaboration between the client, architect and Conservation Officer and Case Officer at The Peak District National Park, which Mid West Planning were able to manage.

The form of the extension was very important to the overall design and had to be subservient and set back from the front elevation of the original cottage.  Window openings had to respect traditional window patterns and use sustainable timber frames.  The roof pitch of the extension and the garage had to match the parent dwelling and use materials that harmonised with the prevalent building materials.

The scheme was approved by the Peak District National Park Authority after careful consideration of the design and materials to be used for the renovation and extension to ensure that the cottage retained its local distinctiveness.  The end result was a beautifully renovated cottage achieved with the help of skilled local craftspeople and determined and dedicated property owners.
